History

Dwarakish Chitra was flagged off in1969 with the landmark film Mayor Muthanna, starring Dr.Rajkumar and Bharathi. This was followed by hugely successful films like Kulla Agent 000 and Cowboy Kulla, Bhagyavantharu, Kittu Puttu, Singaporenalli Raja Kulla, Preethi Maadu Thamashie Nodu, Guru Shishyaru, Pedda Gedda, Prachanda Kulla, Nyaya Elidhe, India Ramayana, Ravana Rajya, Nee Bareda Kadambari, Dance Raja Dance, Jai Karnataka, Shruthi, Aapthamithra ,Vishnuvardhana, Chaarulatha, Aatagara, Chowka, Amma I love You and Aayushmanbhava.

Dwarakish has been at the forefront of the Kannada film industry for over five decades and has many firsts to his credit, including the first Kannada feature film to be shot overseas and the first Kannada feature film music album to be recorded abroad. It was also the first production house from the south to shoot a Trilingual film on foreign shores.

Dwarakish Chitra’s comeback film Aapthamitra (adapted from Manachitratazh) had a record run of more than a year in major centers across Karnataka. It was remade in Hindi as Bhool Bhulaiya and in Telugu and Tamil as Chandramukhi, with Rajnikanth. Both these films were blockbusters as well.

Dwarakish Chitra’s 50 th film Chowka created history in the annals of cinema by featuring the coming together of 5 music directors, 5 Cinematographers, 5 dialogue writers, 5 Art Directors & 5 lyricists. It had the highest ensemble of technicians in a single film.

Apart from the presence of it’s legendary founder Dwarakish, Dwarakish Chitra has produced films starring the colossuses of South Indian cinema including Dr. Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Shankar Nag, Rajnikanth, Anant Nag, Sudeep, Darshan and Shivarajkumar.
